The idea

The RALLY CLUB SANDRO MUNARI comes to life in the mountains of the Apennine range of Bologna (Alto Appennino Bolognese) from the desire of a group of fervent rally fans that, in memory of the beautiful past editions of the R.A.A.B., intend to make relive through events and other initiatives that cover all rally themes and aspects, the best period of the history of this sport. The name of the association could not have been more logical: “RALLY CLUB SANDRO MUNARI”, in tribute to the rally career of the Italian champion symbol of an era, those straddling the 70’s, that inflamed the whole world-wide panorama of this speciality with famous triumphs that allowed Lancia to become in time the uncontested dominant force of rallies. The RALLY CLUB SANDRO MUNARI wants to be a point of reference in this field across which the fans can research and consult, as well as exchange data and information, other relevant material, with an eye to the past, but constantly holding under control the latest rally panorama that still represents the development of this speciality. For this reason, in the club headquarters, we are preparing historical archives based on collections of AUTOSPRINT, RUOTECLASSICHE, AUTO D’EPOCA with which club members can research the sporting careers of divers and motor vehicles. In association with the photographic studio ACTUALFOTO of Bologna, we can give the same possibility, from the photographic point of view, of finding relevant material up to 1987.

The RAAB Classic

A true leap into the past!

This is the strong point of the RAAB Classic, to recreate that “magical "atmosphere, unfortunately of the past, without worrying about the competition, but just for the satisfaction of being amongst friends, sharing the same ….noisy pleasures! In fact, without being modest (as demonstrated by the numerous faxes of congratulations, received in these years, that have in part alleviated the hard work of us organizers) we are truly proud of succeeding, through our event, to revive the glorious age of rallies, even if under the shape of a simply motor rally.....

To hear again in our valleys, after many years, those wonderful motors, amongst which those of the splendid Lancia Stratos Gr.4 (that made many shed a tear) has truly been a great satisfaction.

In these years some of the biggest rally drivers of the world, of that period, have passed through Castiglione; like Walter Rohrl, Miki Biasion, Stig Blomqvist, Markku Alen, Raffaele Pinto, as well as that of our always present Honorary president Sandro Munari and many others.

The growth of interest, registered year after year by the RAAB Classic is one of the more interesting notes of the panorama of the events of the Bologna Apennine area.

The Raab Classic “father of all the rally revivals” as the press by now defines us, has enforced itself, and become one of the appointments of the great Italian classic motorcar tradition and not only, an appointment entered by now of right in the tourist-sports events and if you allow me also cultural events of our territory.

The RAAB Classic, is not a true and an actual competition, but a rally, as defined by the English and therefore this type of competition is a gathering of car connoisseurs of this kind, of people that have employed besides money, years of passion in order to bring back to splendour these particular cars. This is a fact that surely also involves culture, because the owner of these cars, that only in rare occasions can take them out of the garage, after having dedicated a lot of his free time to what he calls his “cherished creature”, is truly prepared, knows it in every minimum detail and is surely in a position of transmitting this “culture” to young people.
